How to upgrade your plan

Learn how to upgrade your Rapyd Cloud plan from the dashboard, and what to do if you want to explore a downgrade.

Overview

When your site is growing and your current plan is starting to feel like a constraint, upgrading is the fastest way to give your environment more headroom. Plan upgrades are self-serve, take effect immediately, and are billed on a prorated basis against your next renewal date.

In this article, you will find step-by-step instructions for upgrading your plan, the different ways to access the upgrade flow from the dashboard, and key billing details to be aware of before you confirm the change.

Before you upgrade

It helps to know what upgrading covers and what it does not, so you can make the right call for your situation.

A plan upgrade is the only way to increase your environment's CPU and RAM. Storage and additional sites, however, can also be purchased as add-ons without upgrading your plan. That said, it is worth doing the math: depending on how much extra storage or how many additional sites you need, upgrading to the next plan tier may be more economical than stacking add-ons.

For a full breakdown of what each plan includes, see Technical Specifications of Rapyd Cloud Plans.

How to upgrade your plan

All plan upgrades are made through the Edit plan modal. There are three ways to get there.

Method 1: From the Environment management page

This is the recommended path if you have more than one plan, as it makes it easy to confirm which environment you are upgrading.

Step 1: Go to your Sites page

Log into your Rapyd Cloud dashboard and navigate to the Sites page.

Step 2: Open Environment management

Click the three-dot menu next to any site in the environment you want to upgrade, then click Manage environment.

Step 3: Open the Edit plan modal

In the Environment management area, locate the Environment plan box and click Edit plan.

Method 2: From the Billing page

Step 1: Go to Billing

From the dashboard, navigate to Billing.

Step 2: Select your subscription

Find the subscription containing the plan you want to upgrade and click View subscription.

Step 3: Open the Edit plan modal

Click the pencil icon next to the plan you want to upgrade.

Method 3: From the Environments list

Step 1: Open your Environments list

Click the account icon in the top-right corner of the dashboard, then select Environments.

Step 2: Open the Edit plan modal

Find the environment you want to upgrade. Click the three-dot icon next to it, then select Edit plan.

Selecting your new plan

Once the Edit plan modal is open, your current plan will already be selected. Follow these steps to choose your new plan.

Step 1: Select a plan tier

Choose the plan tier you want to move to. Take note of the resource limits shown for each tier.

Step 2: Select a plan level

Within your chosen tier, select the specific plan level that fits your needs.

Step 3: Review add-ons (if needed)

If you need extra storage or additional sites beyond what the new plan includes, you can manage add-ons during this step.

Step 4: Review the prorated charge

At the bottom of the modal, you will see the prorated amount due today, calculated against your last payment and next renewal date.

Step 5: Confirm the upgrade

Click Change plan to complete the process. Your environment will be allocated new resources immediately.

Important

A brief environment restart is required after the resource reallocation. In most cases this takes only a few seconds, but you should allow for up to 5 minutes of downtime. Plan upgrades accordingly.

What about downgrading?

Downgrading is not available as a self-serve option in the dashboard. This is because moving to a smaller plan involves resource considerations that need to be reviewed before any changes are made. This ensures that your environment will be stable and well-supported on the new plan.

If your needs have changed and you'd like to explore changing to a smaller plan, our support team can work through the options with you and guide you through the process.

To get started, reach out via live chat in the dashboard or email us at [email protected].

Conclusion

Upgrading your plan is straightforward from the dashboard, and you will only be billed for the prorated difference from today to your next renewal. If you need help deciding which plan is the right fit, our support team is available 24/7.
