This document will introduce you to the core of WordPress sites the WP admin panel. By using this WordPress admin dashboard you can build a powerful website without knowing even a single line of coding.

The WordPress admin panel is going to become an essential part of your daily work as a site administrator. So you need to get familiar with the basic elements of this dashboard right now.

What is WP Admin?

WP Admin is the administration panel of WordPress. It's the back-end interface that allows users to manage their website's content, settings, and functionality. WP Admin is the central hub of WordPress where users can access all the features and tools they need to manage their website.

The WP-admin panel gives you access to add functionalities in the form of plugins and change the style of the website in the form of themes. These are only a glimpse of WP admin's features.

Your purchased domain’s name is an essential part of the URL by which you can access the WP admin dashboard. Your domain has to be connected with WordPress before you take attempt to log in to the WP admin panel.

How to Log in to your WP admin dashboard?

Type your website's name into the address bar of your browser and include /wp-admin with it. WordPress will redirect you to the admin login page automatically. But it's not the only way to land on the admin login page.

You can also manually type the whole URL and enter the login page. The URL should look like this -

Type your username or email address and password in the relevant boxes and press Login to enter the WP admin dashboard.

Here you will find the option to reset your WordPress password by clicking the Lost your password? button.

Introduction to WP admin Dashboard

After you successfully logged in to the WP admin dashboard by default you will see a screen separated into two segments. One is on the left (identified as sidebar in the image below) and the rest of the screen.

You will find several default widgets on the dashboard screen like activity, quick draft, WordPress events and news, and a few more.

But this portion of the screen will change whenever you click on any option from the sidebar. By default, WordPress includes several options in this menu. Various plugins and themes include additional options to this sidebar when you install them on your WP admin profile.

Common elements of WP admin Sidebar

Dashboard - This is the Home button of WP admin panel. No matter which option you are exploring when you click on this option, the home screen will appear.

You can click on the Home option from the submenu to land on the home screen or click on Updates to check for new updates.

Posts - You can add a new blog and other content from this option. Other than adding you can manage and customize your posts from here. All posts will show your published and drafted posts. Add New will take you to a new blog creation page. You can directly add Categories and Tags to your posts from identically named options.

Media - Add your desired media files from this feature of the sidebar. You can also choose previously uploaded media files from the Library option.

Pages - Include and modify your WordPress website pages from here. You will be able to view All Pages of your website from the submenu.

Comments - Your site visitors will be able to communicate with you via commenting on your published posts from this option.

Appearance - Change the look of your site from Themes, Customize, Widgets, Menus, etc options introduced in appearance. You will also be able to send or replay emails from its submenu.

Plugins - Add new plugins, search for new ones, and manage all of your installed plugins from this option of the WP-admin sidebar.

Users - Include people who are going to play different roles on your website such as administrator, author, subscriber, contributor, and editor. Add and manage all of these person profiles from the Users option.

Tools - Here you will find a list of available tools as well as various kinds of data export and import option. This submenu also includes features like exporting and erasing all of your personal data.

Settings - You will get permission to change and modify the WP admin panel's various features and installed plugin settings from here.

How to use WP admin Dashboard

WordPress admin Panel can be used for different purposes. Here we will discuss a few basic things.

Creating a new blog post with WP admin Panel

Let's assume you wish to write and publish a blog post from your WordPress website. First, look for the Posts option from the side menu and put your mouse pointer over it. A submenu will appear right next to it. Click on Add New from there.

A new screen will appear where you can Add title for your blog, and write a blog post in the indicated sector. There are several options to add images, introduce different segments to the blog and finally publish it. All you will find on this screen.

Change Color Schemes of the WordPress admin panel

If you feel that the color scheme of the WP admin panel is not so pleasant then you can always choose a more aesthetic one from the available options. To change the color scheme move your mouse pointer up on Users and click on Profile from the submenu.

The new screen will show you different color schemes. From there, you will be able to choose the best one for your admin panel.

Turn off the Toolbar from WP admin panel

The toolbar is the thin bar that always stays on the top of your screen. It will appear on the live version of your website and also when you work on your WP-admin dashboard. Visitors of your website will not see this as it's only available for those who have access to your website.

If you want to turn it off when viewing the site then simply unmark the tick beside the option Show Toolbar when viewing site. You will find this option right below the color scheme option discussed above.

Hide Unwanted Screen Elements from the admin Panel

You can hide elements from the right portion of the screen of the WP-admin panel if needed. WordPress includes this feature so that you can have a simplified screen while working on the dashboard.

To remove certain elements, first, click on the Screen Option button from the top right corner of your admin page screen.

When the dropdown bar appears in front of you just uncheck the boxes you wish to hide from the screen.
