Overview
An environment is the server your WordPress sites run on. It defines infrastructure-level settings such as region and PHP version that apply to every site hosted within it. Each plan supports one environment, and an environment must be in place before any sites can be created.
In most cases, you will not need to set up an environment manually. The Add site flow prompts you to configure one automatically if your plan does not have an environment yet. This article covers how to set one up in advance, if you prefer to do that separately.
In this article, you will find step-by-step instructions for setting up an environment from the Environments list.
Prerequisites
Before proceeding, confirm the following:
An active plan: You must have a Rapyd Cloud plan before an environment can be deployed. If you have not yet purchased one, see Technical Specifications of Rapyd Cloud Plans to find the right fit.
No existing environment: Each plan supports one environment. If your plan already has one deployed, no further setup is needed.
Creating an environment
Step 1: Navigate to the Environments list
Click the account icon in the top-right corner of the dashboard and select Environments from the menu. This displays a list of all plans in your team, along with the status of each environment.
Step 2: Find your plan
Locate the plan you want to deploy an environment for. If no environment has been set up yet, you will see a Setup environment link on the right side of that plan's card.
Step 3: Open the setup modal
Click Setup environment. A modal will appear with the following fields to complete:
Environment name: A label to help you identify this environment in your dashboard. This can be changed at any time
Data region: The server location for your environment. Choose the region closest to your site's primary audience. This cannot be changed after the environment is deployed
PHP version: The PHP version that will apply to all sites on this environment
Note:
The data region is permanent. Take a moment to choose the right location before confirming, as it cannot be updated after setup.
Step 4: Confirm
Click Confirm. The environment will begin provisioning and will be ready in around 10 minutes. Once deployed, you can add one or more WordPress sites to it depending on your plan.
Conclusion
Once your environment is set up, you are ready to create your first site. If you have any questions or run into any issues, our support team is available 24/7.
