Bulk uploading files to the WordPress Media Library is a process that can save substantial time and effort. Whether you are working with numerous image files for your latest blog posts, or audio and video files for multimedia content, understanding how to perform this task can streamline your workflow significantly.

How to Bulk Upload Files to the WordPress Media Library

  • Prepare your files: Make sure all the files you want to upload are organized in a folder on your computer.

  • Install and activate the "Add From Server" plugin: This plugin allows you to import files from your server directly into the media library. You can find and install it from the WordPress Plugin Repository.

  • Go to Media and click on Add New.

  • Click on the Select Files button.

  • You will now be prompted to add images or videos to your site. To add images in bulk, press Shift and click on an image so that a range of images will be selected. Click on the Open button to upload your images.

  • You will see a number of images will be uploaded to your website as selected before. Feel free to upload, edit or add captions to your images.

  • Another option is to add images or media files from the server of your website. Just click on Add from Server to add files from your server as shown below.

Conclusion

While the Add From Server plugin is a commonly used solution for bulk uploading files, it's always a good practice to backup your site before making any significant changes or using third-party plugins. Alternatively, if you're comfortable with coding and have a large number of files to upload, you can also consider writing a custom script using the WordPress Media API to automate the process.
