If your domain is showing as expired in the Rapyd dashboard, this means that it is no longer active and cannot function properly. Domains typically expire if they are not renewed with the registrar before their renewal date. This guide provides all the information you need to recover your domain from your domain registrar.

Why Is Your Domain Expired?

When a domain expires, it usually goes through the following phases:

  1. Expiration: The domain is deactivated, and services (like website access and email) stop working.

  2. Grace Period: Some registrars offer a grace period during which you can renew your domain without additional fees.

  3. Redemption Period: If the grace period ends, the domain enters the redemption period, during which renewal may incur additional charges.

  4. Available to the Public: After the redemption period, the domain becomes available for purchase by others.

Steps to Recover Your Domain

1. Log Into Your Domain Registrar Account

Visit the website of the registrar where your domain is registered (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains). Log into your account using the credentials associated with the domain.

2. Locate the Expired Domain

This step will depend on the exact layout of your account with your domain resgistrar. Generally, this involves navigating to the Domains section or My Account area in your registrar dashboard. Then, look for the expired domain in your list of registered domains.

3. Check the Renewal Options

If the domain is still within the grace period, you can renew it at the standard renewal price. If the domain is in the redemption period, you may need to pay additional fees to renew it. This will also depend on your domain regisrar.

4. Renew the Domain

Select the expired domain and follow your registrar’s instructions to renew it , which will require payment of the renewal or redemption fee.

5. Update Your Domain’s Nameservers (If Required)

After renewal, ensure that your domain’s nameservers are correctly pointed to Rapyd if you’re using a managed domain. For a guide on updating nameservers, see How to Change Your Domain’s Nameservers.

6. Check the Rapyd Dashboard

Once your domain is active again, return to the Rapyd dashboard. Navigate to Settings > Domains, and click Refresh status for the expired domain.

If the domain’s status doesn’t update within a few hours, contact our support team for assistance.

Important Notes

  • Act Quickly: If your domain has expired, recover it as soon as possible to avoid additional fees or losing the domain entirely.

  • Registrar-Specific Policies: Each registrar may have different renewal timelines and fees. Visit your registrar’s support page for specific instructions.

  • Plan for Renewal: Enable auto-renewal or set reminders to avoid expiration in the future.

  • Domain renewal is entirely independent of Rapyd and must be handled directly through your domain registrar.
