Remote access allows you to access website files stored on external software, such as FileZilla. One popular method of remote access is through File Transfer Protocol (FTP), which allows users to transfer files between their computer software (FileZilla) and server. However, while FTP is easy to use, it lacks security features, making it less suitable for transferring sensitive data. That’s why we always recommend using SFTP & SSH remote access to access your files.

What is FTP (File Transfer Protocol)?

FTP is a simple method for transferring files between your computer and server. It's relatively easy to use, but it lacks security features, making it less suitable for transferring sensitive data.

How to find FTP credentials on the Rapyd Dashboard

  1. Navigate to > Tools > File Access on the Rapyd Dashboard.

  2. Click on FTP.

  3. Your FTP credentials are preset by default, but you can reset the password by clicking the Reset password button and following the steps.

How to Initiate an FTP connection using FileZilla

  1. Launch the FileZilla client and enter the FTP address in the Host field.

  2. Enter your Username.

  3. Enter your Password.

  4. Set the Port to 21.

  5. Click on QuickConnect.

  6. You are now connected to your server via FTP. You can drag and drop files and folders between your personal computer and your server.

Security Tips for Protecting Your Files

  • Use Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSH) instead of FTP: SFTP is a more secure alternative to FTP that uses encryption to protect your data while it's in transit. It's recommended to use SFTP or SSH for transferring sensitive files over the internet.

  • Implement strong passwords and two-factor authentication: Use complex and unique passwords for your remote access accounts, and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) whenever possible. This will add an extra layer of security and prevent unauthorized access.

  • Regularly update your software and plugins: Keep your remote access software, plugins, and other tools up-to-date to ensure that any known security vulnerabilities are patched.

  • Limit access to only authorized users: Use role-based access control (RBAC) to ensure that only authorized users can access specific files or folders. This will reduce the risk of accidental or malicious data breaches.
